Closing Shift Roblox: How to Barricade Doors and What Happens Next
Hold E at a door to barricade it with a chair in Closing Shift (Roblox). Barricades slow animatronics, but they kick doors in — know what to expect.
Quick answer
To barricade a door in Closing Shift, hold E at a door that has a chair and block it — the HUD shows BARRICADING while you work. A barricade only buys you time: the animatronics kick barricaded doors in, so it slows them down rather than stopping them.
- Hold E at a door with a chair nearby; the HUD displays BARRICADING while you set the chair up.
- Doors shown being barricaded include the EMPLOYEES ONLY break room, a BEST DAY EVER party room and the kitchen.
- A barricade is a temporary obstacle, not a sealed safe room — expect the door to be kicked in eventually.
- Voice lines and prompts such as SOMEONE IS INSIDE can warn you that an animatronic is right on the other side.

How to barricade a door with a chair
Barricading uses a chair as the blocker, and the action itself is simple:
- Find a door that has a chair at it. A solo run shows the mechanic working on the EMPLOYEES ONLY break room door, a BEST DAY EVER party room door and the kitchen door — each had a chair available at the door.
- Hold E at the door. Your character props the chair up against it.
- Watch the HUD: it shows BARRICADING while the barricade is being set.
In that same run, the player barricaded the break room, a party room and the kitchen while turning those rooms over for keys and code digits. That fits what barricades are for: the developer's own description lists barricading doors among your defenses, and the delay it creates is best spent actually doing something in the room — like hunting for the four keys.
What a barricade actually does
A barricade is a temporary obstacle, not a sealed safe room. The game's official description is upfront about the trade: you can barricade doors, but the animatronics kick them in. Other survival coverage puts it the same way — barricading slows the animatronics down without stopping them.
So plan around the delay rather than the door. The seconds a chair buys you are useful for searching, repositioning or moving on to another tool. What the barricade is not is an end state: any animatronic that reaches the door will eventually come through it.
When an animatronic reaches your barricaded door
The game can warn you. After the player barricaded the BEST DAY EVER party room door, a Freddy voice line played and the prompt SOMEONE IS INSIDE appeared.
Two things then matter:
- Don't open the barricade yourself. Later in the run, with an unknown voice speaking outside a barricade, the player pulled the barricade open — and a Birthday Bear jump scare followed, with the screen showing SEIZED.
- Don't assume the chair protects you while you wait. In one party room, a Freddy grab attack landed while the player was behind a barricade, and the run only continued after extra lives were spent. A barricade delays an animatronic; it does not make you untouchable.
Barricades are one option among several
Because a door only buys time, it's worth knowing what else the night shift offers. The official description lists the alternatives: hide in closets, crawl through the vents, watch the cameras to track what is moving through the restaurant, and ask the Puppet at the security desk for help. The Puppet and the camera terminal are in the security/safe room you reach by elevator at the start of the night.
There's also voice chat: the animatronics listen, and saying the right thing may make them let you go. If a voice starts talking outside your barricade, what you say back can matter more than the door itself — just don't be the one to open it first.
Tips
Barricade, then act
The recorded run barricaded the break room, a party room and the kitchen, then searched those rooms for keys and code digits. Spend the delay a barricade buys instead of waiting behind it.
Listen at the door
A Freddy voice line and a SOMEONE IS INSIDE prompt played right after a party room barricade went up.
Never open it to check
When an unknown voice spoke outside a barricade, pulling it open triggered a Birthday Bear jump scare and a SEIZED screen. Let whatever is outside come through the door on its own terms.
Keep a plan B ready
Closets, vents, cameras, the Puppet and voice chat all do work a chair can't. A barricade slows an animatronic down — it doesn't end the encounter.
